Last year, we got lots of fruit trees donated and they are flourishing this season.

Last week, when we foraged, the kids picked all the green peaches, nectarines and plums.
OOPS. Good thing fruit is like hair… It’ll grow back.
This week I’ll have a more specific direction when they start searching for their second lunch, “forage on the ground floor only.” No trees. It was a heartbreaking moment for me, but they had a good time doing it!

The guests were cozy in the Casita with a roaring fire to welcome them to this special day.
Outside the weather was giving us a thrilling evening – we weren’t sure if it would rain – and we didn’t care either way – we were safe and warm, held by all the love in the room.

Right after the ceremony, we served chubby crab cakes to appreciative guests. Followed by a grand buffet with an emphasis on vegetarian selections.
People raved – and joy abounded. Weddings are wonderful.

I have friends in the hills.
I was on the freeway when I took this picture headed toward Shelley’s.
I tried to drop by her house to see if she needed help, but the streets were already closed.

I like to remember that fire occurs naturally. It still makes me sad to see our hills on fire.
Please come. We have a party going on now. The POWER 106 music van is gonna be spinning tunes for us, the bounce house will be bouncing, Marilu Henner will be networking for the Child Nutrition Act (our cause) and the weather’s supposed to break by then, so we’ll be hanging in the Arboretum with a bit of cooler weather.

So come. Bring a dish for 6 people and share in the feast. I’ll be making fig preserves with my team from the North Hollywood High School Garden and zucchinis from the 24th street school garden.

don't make me eat alone
It’s a holiday weekend and I have the Eat-in and all, but let’s give these guys a good meal. During the 2007 Malibu fires, I had a party for 100 planned and the host had to evacuate 2 hours before the party. We had already made the food so we donated it to the firefighters and Chrissy took it up to the fireline.

Let me know if you can help me Saturday morning at 9 AM – we’ll cook what’s in the cupboard and send somebody to the hills. I’ll need folks to help cook and if someone feels adventurous and wants to head to the frontline, please please, step up!

Fifty pounds to be exact! Rayna and Lisa arrived at 7 am (and called me to find out I was still drinking coffee in my nightee at my house). I arrived 5 minutes later because I live 4 minutes from the Shoppe, and the fun began. First we cleaned the grapes from the stems. This variety has seeds, which makes no nevermind to our process.
